New Humanism
New Humanism is a movement that aims to reevaluate and adapt the principles of classical humanism to the needs and challenges of the contemporary world. It is a profound reflection on the role of human beings in the face of technological progress.
New Humanism promotes an approach where the human being is at the center of reflection and action, emphasizing intrapersonal (i.e., the person's relationship with themselves) and interpersonal (i.e., relationships between people) connections. It restores essential value to human relationships, which are the keystone of sociality and the definition of individual identities.
New Humanism places the concept of "pleasure" as a bulwark of vital function since without pleasure there is no meaningful life and therefore no life worthy of being lived to the full.
Some considerations on the New Humanism are:
- Like Renaissance humanism, New Humanism emphasizes the importance of the individual but in a context of socio-cultural revolution unprecedented in human history.
- New Humanism encourages a transversal approach, integrating knowledge and methodologies from different areas of knowledge, such as science, psychology, pedagogy, philosophy, art, technology and social sciences.
- Sustainable development is considered as a function of human pleasure and sustenance, therefore in harmony with an ecosystem in which circular economies inspired by industrial and para-industrial sustainable models are established.
- The movement questions technological development by adopting a critical and dynamic attitude but never reluctant and blind.
- New Humanism values dialogue between different cultures, promoting inclusion and mutual understanding. It opposes all forms of discrimination and intolerance.
- Emotional education is the main path to social cohesion and success, as the emotional vector is able to broaden and enrich intra- and interpersonal understanding, make relational dynamics aware on various levels and enhance conflicts as states of potential.
- The movement encourages the active participation of citizens in public and political life, promoting a sense of community, commitment to the common good and the deepening of civic education in order to keep alive a healthy feeling of collective closeness, criticism and constructive towards public affairs
- Culture and art are seen as essential tools for expressing the human condition, promoting reflection and stimulating social change.
- New Humanism does not claim to have answers, but often invites us to raise questions that are challenging and constructive.
- The New Humanism starts from the need to spread a boundless spirit of brotherhood that embraces change as the most authentic dynamic of every human being, as well as of the entire universe.
New Humanism is not a rigid doctrine, but rather a set of guiding principles that can be adapted and applied in different ways depending on local contexts and the specific needs of communities.
It is an invitation to rediscover the value of our common humanity and to work together to build a harmonious and authentic future for all.
